This easy blueberry compote only needs four ingredients and comes together in 15 minutes. You can make it with fresh or frozen blueberries to give you a jammy topping for pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, ice cream and more.

This is a super simple recipe that's part of my sauces & seasonings collection. I like to make this during my weekly meal prep sessions. It's super versatile and tastes so good that you could eat it on its own. It’s really meant to be used as a topping. Drizzle it over pancakes, baked oatmeal or add it to your yogurt for a delicious pop of flavor to make your weekday breakfast a little more interesting!
How to Make It
This super simple recipe has just a few simple steps --

- Step 1: Add all of the ingredients to a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.

- Step 2: Continue cooking for about 12 minutes. The liquid will start to turn purple and the blueberries will start to pop.

- Step 3: Continue cooking until most of the blueberries have started to break down and the mixture is becoming thick.

- Step 4: Remove the compote from the heat and transfer to a small jar or storage container. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
Serving Suggestions
There are so many different ways you can use this compote. A few of my favorites are:
- Pancakes, waffles, or French toast. It’s fantastic on all three. I love to pair it with my cottage cheese pancake!
- Oatmeal. Spoon the compote over baked oatmeal or these Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats.
- Yogurt. Swirl some into your yogurt and add a sprinkle of this honey flax granola for crunch!
- Cheesecake. Serve it with these Mini Lemon Cheesecakes for a fun weekday dessert.
- Ice cream. Drizzle some over vanilla ice cream for the ultimate easy summer treat.
Leftover compote will keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. It also freezes well. You can freeze it in a zip-top bag or in an ice tray if you want to have individual servings.

Small Batch Blueberry Compote
Ingredients
- ½ cup fresh blueberries
- ½ tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tbsp water
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a small saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mixture should be bubbling slightly.
- Remove mixture from heat and let cool for at least 10 minutes. Mixture will thicken as it cools.
Notes
- Around the 7 minute mark, the berries should start to pop and the liquid should be getting thick and turning purple. If that's not happening, turn the heat up just a bit for a minute or two.
- If you use frozen blueberries you may need to either turn up the heat a bit at the beginning or increase the cooking time by a few minutes.
